We all feel so helpless knowing and seeing that people are sleeping on our streets. We can’t fix the homeless crisis, but we can do our bit of good to help make things better. We at HHB do this daily in one way or another.

There are several ways that you can help to make a difference.

As we don’t receive any funding, we really appreciate everything that our volunteers do and the generous donations that we receive. They allow us to continue to help Bristol’s homeless.

Come and join us.

Help Homeless Believe.

Donations

As mentioned above we do not receive any funding, so we rely on the generous donations that we receive. They help us with paying for food, buying essential supplies and keeping our emergency response van on the road.

To make it easier for you to donate to us we use PayPal. This allows you to either make a one time donation or set up an automatic recurring donation. With PayPal it is easy and secure. If however you would like to make a donation without using PayPal please message us through the Contact Us page.

Amazon Wish List

We have got our own Amazon wish list for the items that we require. An Amazon wish list is a list of products that we need that are sold on the Amazon.co.uk website. To use it, you purchase the items like you would with any other product, using your own account. The only difference is that the items will be delivered directly to us.

The wish list includes items such as:

  • Thermal Clothing
  • Tents
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Sleeping bags
  • Rucksacks

Fundraising

Fundraising is another great way that you can help us.

They are many different ways that you can fundraise, including:

  • Pub Quiz – get into teams, charge a fee to take part and nominate your most exuberant colleague as quiz master!
  • Swear jar– and make sure people put in a pound every time they use a naughty word.
  • Running a sweepstake– whether it’s for the Six Nations or the Apprentice, assign everyone a team or participant, charge to play and split the pot between the winner and Helping Homeless Believe
  • Karaoke night or an open-mic night
  • A cake sale
  • Signing up for a challenge as a team – you could do a local run, swim or cycle

If you are planning on doing any fundraising please let us know as we would love to tell others about what you are doing.

Please message us through the Contact Us page and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Volunteering

There are multiple ways that you can volunteer with us.

Volunteering roles that are available include:

  • Receive people’s donations and store them
  • Cooking food (requires hygiene certificates)
  • Making sandwiches & cakes
  • Weekly outreach (requires a CV)

If you would like to volunteer with us, please message us through the Contact Us page and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

private-landlord

Are you a private landlord?

We are looking for some landlords that will accept DSS(Department for Social Security) tenants.

Landlords can sometimes be nervous about tenants on low incomes and many fear that those on benefits may fail to keep up on rent payment. However, there are legal safeguards in place in the event that a tenant in receipt of Housing Benefit goes into arrears.

In these cases, provided the arrears are at least eight weeks, you can request that the local authority pays the benefit directly to you, rather than to the tenant. The local authority will then adjudicate, and is likely to rule that the money should be paid to you unless there is an overriding reason why this is not in the tenant’s best interest, for example if there is an ongoing dispute over repairs.

Legally, there’s nothing to stop you renting a property to DSS tenants. All the terms of a tenancy agreement remain the same and you’re not required to provide anything extra.

Leaving a gift in your Will

By remembering Helping Homeless Believe in your Will, you’ll ensure that we can continue to be here for the homeless for as long as we’re needed.

Gifts in Wills are vital to all areas of our work, so any gift you give, whatever size, will make a big difference to the people that we support.
